Antique Mirror Repaired

Mirror for the mid 1800's was brought to in to our workshop in pieces for us to repair

We were recently brought a gorgeous Venetian-style etched glass mirror that dates all the way back to around 1850. It arrived at the shop in rough shape—literally in pieces, with a lot of the parts either cracked or missing entirely. Honestly, this was such a fun project to tackle. To do it right and not take away from workmanship that's nearly 200 years old, I had to carefully take apart every single remaining piece and re-glue everything from scratch just to give the whole structure its strength back, while making sure it still looked completely original. From there, I custom-cut and hand-beveled small accent pieces and glass trim strips to replace the missing sections. For the original strips that were just cracked, I used a specialized glass epoxy to bond them back together because I wanted to save as much of the historic glass as humanly possible. It took a ton of hours and a lot of patience, but it was completely worth it to give this beautiful piece of history a whole new lease on life.
